Camping and s’mores go hand-in-hand but the closest this mama has ever been to camping was staying at a Best Western once.  So, we are going to have our First Annual S’mores Fest on the patio.  While I acknowledge these are not the healthiest of food choices, this activity should entertain the kids for at least 15 minutes.  Tonight we will be veering away from the traditional s’more and trying a few creative variations.  All of these can be done inside with the oven or outside with the grill. I just don’t know if that giant Hershey’s bar is going to survive the day…

1 large marshmallow   1 graham cracker     1 (1.5 ounce) bar chocolate candy bar

Not that these instructions are necessary but just in case…Heat the marshmallow over an open flame (or in the oven) until it begins to brown and melt.  Break the graham cracker in half. Sandwich the chocolate between the cracker and the hot marshmallow. Allow the marshmallow to cool a moment before eating.  Shake things up a bit and add some toasted banana and peanut butter.

Super yums.

Unwrap the Andes mints and place them on top of one of the graham cracker halves.

Roast the marshmallow and place it on top of the mints.

Place the other graham cracker half on top of the marshmallow to form a sandwich.

8 graham crackers   32 large marshmallows, cut in half    2  1.5-ounce chocolate bars (such as Hershey’s)                       1 cup fresh raspberries

Adjust rack to middle position and heat broiler or toaster oven. Break the crackers in half to form squares and place on a baking sheet. Arrange 4 marshmallow halves on top of each square. Broil for 30 to 60 seconds or until the marshmallows are golden brown. Break each chocolate bar into 12 pieces. Arrange the chocolate and raspberries on top of half the crackers. Invert the remaining marshmallow-topped crackers onto the raspberry-and-chocolate–topped crackers, pressing gently to make sandwiches. Stack them, it’s fun.

Skip the graham crackers and slice a banana lengthwise and stuff it with pieces of chocolate and marshmallows. Stick it on the grill to warm it up to melt the chocolate and marshmallows.

1 marshmallow

2 chewy caramels

2 green apple slices, about 1/2-inch thick

Skewer the marshmallow followed by the two caramels on the same roasting stick. Roast until golden. Slide concoction onto one of the apple slices, top with remaining slice.
