Put the fork down, fatty

Jul 6th, 2010

Coming off an indulgent holiday weekend, I thought sharing this body scan comparison of two women would be a gentle reminder to get your diet back on track – quickly.  When I first saw this picture, I immediately went into the kitchen and threw out my secret Famous Amos stash.  So, next time you are having trouble staying motivated, pull this comparison up and take a look at all of that undigested food.  I think you’ll put the fork down.

This is the first year in quite some time that we have stayed home for the 4th of July.  I was a little disappointed about that fact until I put this menu together.  Now I’m stoked… and hungry.  At least I won’t have to work off that vacation bloat.

Happy 4th!

Lately, you can find superfood lists everywhere.  To make it easier, I compiled a whole bunch of them for you in one place.   Unless you have been living in a cave like that lady in Shutter Island, you know that superfoods are defined as foods which are so nutrient-rich that they can help fight aging, illness, provide you with more energy and in some cases, help you lose weight. Superfoods have high amounts of flavonoids and micro and macro nutrients while being low in calories. Woo-hoo!  If you already have some of these in your kitchen, add a couple to your menu – today.  If you a superfood slacker, pick 5 off the list to throw in your grocery cart this week.  My personal favorites are eggs, salmon, blueberries and spinach.  What are your’s?
