Besides being wickedly funny the most endearing thing about the brash Simon Doonan is that he absolutely adores women. In Eccentric Glamour, Mr. Doonan demands that we buck style conformity and embrace our individuality via, well with anything we damn well please. With chapters titled ‘What the Hookers are Wearing’ and ‘Dressing Down Is a Crime Against Humanity’ he hilariously inspires us to add to our personal styles without going porno chic or “turning into a hoochie blow-up doll.” As busy, exhausted moms, we tend to forget how much fun and therapeutic fashion expression can be. After reading this fabulously campy book, you will never again stand in front of the mirror wavering if that peacock feathered headband may be a bit much for public viewing. Go for it – you have nothing to lose.

Tonight I am off to a well-deserved evening with the ladies and I am in the mood for a romp. A romper, that is, but maybe a romp too, if my husband is lucky and the kids haven’t destroyed the house by the time I get home and the laundry is done, and the coffee is set and the bottles are prepared… Oh never mind, I’m already too tired.

My hair has always been a point of contention for me. It’s thin and fine and the only time it ever looked good, without the help of the massive amount of extensions I have installed monthly, was when I was pregnant. What I had amassed during pregnancy #2 promptly fell out a couple weeks after my kid made his entrance. It has been in a state of flux ever since. Recently, though, I had my hair done for a wedding and an angel sent from the heavens (otherwise known as my hairdresser, Sarah), brought out a vile of white powder. Now get your mind out of the gutter, it wasn’t that kind of white powder it was a product called Dust It by Osis. She sprinkled a wee bit in my hair, worked it in and voilà, instant volume without the heaviness that my hair cannot handle. I have been using it ever since in my battle against flat hair. It works wonders in this ridiculous humidity we have smothering us in the sunshine state. Two tips to keep in mind: 1. Buy it online. It’s much cheaper than at the salon. 2. For the brunettes and redheads out there, make sure to really work the powder in. It looks like dandruff if you don’t.

There is nothing cuter than a bunch of a 3-year-old’s bumping around on stage in their recital costumes. Their chubby little bodies stuffed into those outrageous tutus is totally irresistible to me. My daughter’s recital is this Saturday and let’s be honest, this shindig is all for me. I have been waiting for this day since she was in utero. Here are some pics from the dress rehearsal. This proud mama had to share…
Waiting patiently (that’s a first!)
The epitome of grace…
a little toe work…
…and we’re done.
